It’s been a while…

14 11 2008

Wow!!!  This has been a very busy season for Groundwire and for my family!  I haven’t been able to blog like I have in the past, but I hope to return to regular blog entries on the things God is doing through the Groundwire chat line, the global church, and in my own life…  Keep an eye on this page for posts in the next few days!

We are on the air in the Black Hills!

New Responsibilities….

9 06 2008

Traffic on Groundwire’s coaching line has grown over 49% year to date–that’s a huge increase in the amount of young people wanting to chat with someone….

I’ve moved away from my previous role in development and am now overseeing the coaching line.  There are close to 100 volunteer coaches who serve with us.  Our coaches come from all stages of life, from a wide variety of denominations, and are located all over the world.  I’m excited about the new role–it puts me in the center of the ministry and allows me to participate in a more direct way in the impacting of lives for Christ.

If you have a desire to communicate Christ’s love to the next generations–please contact me…  We’d love to have you join the Groundwire team!

Another new life!

20 05 2008

Denae, Groundwire’s coach coordinator, emailed on Friday with some good news….

“Hey Guys….Thought I would share with you that L***** accepted Christ this afternoon after several conversations with her – very excited about that!”

L***** had been raised in some pretty tough circumstances.  She was brought up in a group home where there was pressure to accept religion.  She said she accepted just to be left alone.  Her mother was in jail for a period of time and continued in poor choices once she got out in spite of claiming to be a Christian.  All of this reinforced negative perceptions about Christ and Christianity.

L***** asked many questions over the course of the week–questions like:

“if God really loves us why do bad things happen to good and innocent people and good things happen to bad people?”

Denae helped her navigate through the questions.  Eventually, L***** said she was ready, and asked Denae to lead her in prayer to start her new life in Christ.

So, I’m asking for you to pray for L*****.  Pray that she gets established in a church, that she embraces the Bible and time alone with God, and that she stays strong during the first weeks of walking with the Lord.  Pray that God sends more mentors into her life to help her grow, and that she learns to hear His voice.  Thanks for joining us praying for her!

Sunny South Dakota

15 05 2008

I’m typing this poolside in sunny Rapid City, SD.  Luckily, the pool is indoors.  It’s a bit chilly outside, and the wind is blowing something fierce.  In spite of the outside weather, its warm and humid under this patio umbrella so this is a great location to get some work done.  The splashing water from the fake waterfall and the hum of the hot tub jets make this a peaceful atmosphere–even if I’m staying bone dry. (I wouldn’t want to destroy this laptop)

Jim and I have a luncheon scheduled in Rapid City in a few hours.  Our hope is that we can add the Rapid City marketplace to our growing list of Groundwire radio markets.  Our desire is to meet with local business and church leaders to discuss different avenues for funding the spots on secular radio stations and then plugging the kids who respond via the chat line into local churches.  Partnership on this level takes time and resources.  I love this line of work, and I’m praying that we will have the peices in place to begin airing spots by the time we drive away tomorrow morning.  Please join me in prayer that this will happen.

God is good.  He has provided me with work that I enjoy immensly, and He had planted the seeds of the passions that would drive this work years ago–passion for cooperation among the Body of Christ, passion for youthwork, passion for encouraging and strengthening existing leadership, passion for counseling, passion for worship and passion for missions.  He is good.  I was reading in Ephesians today, ”I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing him personally, 18 your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is he is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life he has for Christians, 19 oh, the utter extravagance of his work in us who trust him—endless energy, boundless strength!  Eph 1:17-19 (MSG)”  I see that at work as I’m sitting here getting work done in this restful enviornment, enjoying doing the things He has created me to do.  I’m grateful…

Groundwire added two more cities!

8 05 2008

Groundwire began airing in Charleston, SC (95SX) and Colorado Springs, CO (KILO 94.3) this week!  Those two radio stations add another 150,000 listeners a week!

An increase of listeners will mean an increase in chats–so please pray for more coaches to handle the increased traffic on Groundwire’s site!
